MontCo DA In Bill Cosby Case, Bruce Castor, Offers His Opinion On Supreme Court Ruling Leading To Cosby’s Release

Bruce Castor, in his first interview with media following the breaking news of Bill Cosby’s release, joins the Dom Giordano Program to offer his thoughts on the situation. Back in 2005, Castor, while serving as the District Attorney Montgomery County, declined to prosecute Cosby for sexual assault in 2005 after he found “insufficient, credible, and admissible evidence exists upon which any charge Mr. Cosby could be sustained beyond a reasonable doubt.” Today, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court reversed the decision to imprison Cosby, ruling that Castor’s non-prosecution pledge was in fact binding on Cosby’s prosecutor, leading to the comedian’s ultimate release from prison.

When asked about his overall thoughts on the decision, Castor tells Giordano, “the decision was a common sense decision and I’m very flattered that the Supreme Court used the same rationale and arguments that I had made back then, and essentially ruled what I did was reasonable.”

Castor continues, “It’s always nice when the highest court in the State agrees with you.”

Castor continues, discussing the decision by the Supreme Court, explaining that the opinion “effectively says that I concluded appropriately that there was very little chance to win the case based on the available evidence at the time.”

Castor has come under fire since the decision earlier today, with members of the media villainizing both him and his offer, pointing to this case as evidence of a failing judicial system.

In justifying the deal, Castor explains, “I wanted Andrea Constand to have some measure of justice so I came up with an idea that would force Cosby to testify at a civil case and ultimately result in a significant settlement for the alleged victim.”

Castor explains why this will likely be the end of the Bill Cosby saga.

“There’s no new third trial, he is discharged because, what the government did, over my objection in charging him, was so off the charts in violation of Cosby’s rights that he has to go free.”

Giordano and Warrell discuss the heightened demand for gun licenses and surrounding crime, and try to determine the reasoning for the higher need for licenses. Then, Warrell and Giordano discuss the recent election, and the pushback that Warrell faced for his moderate policies, with the Democratic party offering a primary candidate against him and essentially running him out of office after refusing to endorse him as their candidate.
