Former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell joined Rich Zeoli on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT discussing his decision to endorse Carlos Vega for the Democratic nominee for Philadelphia District Attorney.
“I was still going to stay out of [the race] until the weekend. The weekend convinced me that the violence that is going on, gun violence [let us] call it what it is. The gun violence requires a change in attitude of the District Attorney’s office.”
Rendell continued, “I think gun violence is slowly but surely taking the heart out of our city and it’s time to fight back.”
Rendell was also appalled at the number of children involved shootings since DA Larry Krasner took office. In 2017, before Krasner took office, Philadelphia reported 96 shootings involving children; in 2020 alone, it was nearly 200.
“2020 was almost 200 [children shootings].That’s just unacceptable, we can’t do that. We can’t keep losing our children to gun violence, we’ve got to fight back. It’s starts with a new DA and I think Carlos Vega is going to surprise a lot of people.”
The former Governor also weighed in on the growing policies of the left and liberals being anti-police including defund the police movement.
“When I heard the term, used by some of the protestors, defund the police, I called the Biden campaign folks and I said ‘you’ve got to get out there with the strongest possible statement that we don’t believe that.’”
Rendell concluded, “Most police are good honorable men and women who are trying to do the best they can. We should focus on the things that create the atmosphere, the lack of training things like that but don’t make the police the villains in this.”
