Philly Councilman Squilla On Columbus Day Name Change

Philadelphia Councilman Mark Squilla, representing the first district, returns to the Dom Giordano Program to discuss a press release he penned regarding the city’s decision to rename Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples’ Day. First, Squilla and Giordano discuss the timing of such a change, and pontificate why Italian-Americans are being largely erased from the history and fabric of Philadelphia. Then, Squilla and Giordano discuss the history of both Christopher Columbus and Columbus Day, making sure to point out that it has never been a day of division and should never have been turned into one. Squilla also notes that this would not be something accepted if done to any other group besides Italian-Americans, and it’s his duty to stand up for what is right and what is wrong.

Brydon Ross On Economic Benefit Of Pipelines

Brydon Ross, Vice President of State Affairs for the Consumer Energy Alliance and head of the Pipelines for America campaign, joins the Dom Giordano Program to discuss the human impact on the cancellation of pipelines, something that’s been ramped up as President Joe Biden pushes climate change initiatives. First, Ross discusses the economic growth that has given prosperity to areas like North Dakota, and explains the effect that the consumer gains from domestic independence in energy.

Wildwood Mayor Pete Byron On Potential Implementation Of Beach Tags

Wildwood Mayor Pete Byron of Wildwood returns to the Dom Giordano Program, this time for a discussion on beach tags after news broke that the Mayors of three of the Wildwoods met to discuss the implementation of tags or some other tourism fee due to skyrocketing maintenance costs of beaches at the Jersey Shore. Byron explains to Dom that the conversation was a necessity, and happens every couple of years, but does not imply that they will be moving forward, at all, with beach tags in the city. The Mayor was sure to stress that it was nothing more than a conversation. Also, Byron discusses the potential for recreational marijuana in the city, and explains the positive impact it’d have on the local economy.
