Philly Police to Lose State Accreditation
Today, Dom led off the Dom Giordano Program by discussing a change of tune by the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission in dealing with Philadelphia, telling that the leaders of the organization have reconsidered their vote to continue their accreditation of the Philadelphia Police Department, now voting against accreditation for the department. Then, Dom gets into a conversation centered in sports, telling that he launched a poll on his Twitter asking whether people believe Barry Bonds or Aaron Judge to be the true homerun leader in MLB history, expounding how this reflects common disagreements playing out through society. Also, Giordano reads back a quote from Doc Rivers regarding criminal justice and police reform and how things have changed in the realm of public safety since.
NBC10's Tracy Davidson with Updates on Mail Fraud Trend in Philadelphia
Then, Dom welcomes back NBC10 Anchor Tracy Davidson onto the Dom Giordano Program for an update on a continued trend of mail fraud in Philadelphia. Last time she was on, Tracy told Giordano and listeners about a situation in Philadelphia in which criminals are taking mail out of mailboxes, finding checks, washing the checks of what's written on them, re-writing the checks for larger amounts, then cashing the checks, robbing victims of thousands of dollars. Tracy now tells of an incident in Drexel Hill, in which thieves stole over a hundred keys for mailboxes, leading to theft of over $170,000, and another investigation that she and her team are pursuing in Germantown.
Thomas More Society's Peter Breen on the Arrest of Mark Houck
In today's second hour, Dom welcomes Peter Breen, Vice President and Senior Counsel at Thomas More Society, back onto the Dom Giordano Program to discuss an upcoming rally that he and Dom will be speaking at in support of Mark Houck. Houck, an outspoken pro-life activist and father of 7, was arrested a couple weeks ago after allegedly shoving an escort at Planned Parenthood. Breen explains how the excessive show of force could have been easily avoided, offering Houck's side of the story, telling why both believe there was no reason for the violent FBI raid on his home. Breen tells that he, in all his time, has not seen such a situation to this degree, explaining what he believes should have happened to avoid what Dom considers an 'armada' from showing up.
PLEAC's Pat Molloy on Decision to Remove Philadelphia PD's Accreditation
Then, Dom welcomes in Patrick Molloy, Police Chief of Abington Township and member of the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission, to the Dom Giordano Program to discuss why the PLEAC has decided to re-vote on their accreditation of the Philadelphia Police Department. Molloy explains that a vote came up back in July after Philadelphia announced the Equality in Driving Act, which they initially argued had tied the hands of police officers in the City of Philadelphia. Molloy tells that after settling some confusion, the organization voted to remove the accreditation of the Philadelphia Police Department. Dom and Pat discuss what this means for the Police department moving forward, with Dom stressing that he hopes this pushes the hand of elected officials in Philadelphia to make the city safer and easier to police.
Al Taubenberger To Announce New Law on Illegal Firearms in Jailene Holton's Name
In today's third hour, Dom welcomes Karen McConnell onto the Dom Giordano Program, the grandmother of slain 21-year-old Jailene Holton, who was gunned down in a bar while serving as a designated driver for her friends. McConnell, along with former City Councilman Al Taubenberger who's now running for State Assembly, is announcing the 'Jailene Amendment,' which, if elected, Taubenberger would propose to the state assembly and makes carrying an illegal firearm a mandatory two-year sentence. McConnell updates Giordano what her family has gone through since the incident, and tell why she puts a lot of blame on District Attorney Larry Krasner.
