Dr. Martin Makary's Herd Immunity Update
Dr. Marty Makary, New York Times Best-Selling Author of The Price We Pay and professor at Johns Hopkins University returns to the Dom Giordano Program for an update on his prediction that, if all goes well, we'd be reaching herd immunity by April. First, Giordano and Makary discuss an upcoming piece by Makary that'll appear in the Wall Street Journal in which he compares the UK to the US in the race to herd immunity, as the UK reaches the precipice and the US lags behind. Then, Makary discusses the leadership by Dr. Fauci throughout the virus, explaining that the lack of hard decision-making knocked us back in the race to herd immunity. Then, Makary updates the prediction he made, explaining that results have differed on a regional basis, with parts of the country starting to reach herd immunity while areas like New York and New Jersey lag a bit. After that, Makary explains what exactly herd immunity is, explaining that it's not binary but rather a progression toward safety. Finally, Makary gives his thoughts on vaccine passports, telling us that if we do indeed go forward with the proposal, it's absolutely necessary to also include those who have antibodies.
Camden County's Louis Cappelli On Potential For 'Vaccine Passports'
Louis Cappelli Jr., Commissioner Director of Camden County, returns to the Dom Giordano Program to discuss the proposition of vaccine passports. First, Cappelli reveals to Giordano when he believes Camden County will go full force in reopening, setting July 4th as the date with a concert headlined by Southside Johnny and Asbury Jukes. Then, Giordano and Cappelli get into the conversation over vaccine passports, with Cappelli explaining that the only thing the county is currently advocating for is for vaccine recipients to keep track and hold on to their cards in case this initiative is enacted.
Cappelli explains that the county will wait for protocols from the state before making any decisions, telling that he and the Commissioners do not anticipate requiring vaccine passports. Also, Cappelli explains how Democrats can vouch for a vaccine passport while speaking out against voter ID laws for similar constitutional reasons.
