Readin', Writin', and Reason with Dom Giordano | Episode 66

Keeping Our Kids Safe

Dom Giordano, WPHT host and former teacher, has dedicated much of his daily show toward parents who are taking it into their own hands to push back against school boards that have a negative impact on their children. This has culminated in a weekly podcast on education, Readin', Writin', and Reason, which has allowed wonderful relationships to develop between Giordano, educators, and parents throughout the country who are speaking out against overbearing school boards.

First, Giordano welcomes John Toomey, father of slain teenager Sean Toomey, to discuss his impassioned speech in Harrisburg, in which he joined with other victims of violence in Philadelphia to call for the impeachment of Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner.

Then, Betsy DeVos, former United States Secretary of Education under President Trump, rejoins the podcast to discuss her new book Hostages No More: The Fight for Education Freedom and the Future of the American Child. First, Giordano reads back a quote from a New York Post article examining a proposed ban on skirts, and ties this to President Biden’s stance on charter schools. DeVos expresses the benefits of charter schools, telling Giordano and listeners what they bring to the table that public schools don’t. Then, Giordano and DeVos discuss DeVos’ continue support for Title IX, with Dom asking for Betsy to tell what she’s done for women’s sports, and for an opinion on the decision by FINA to ban transgendered swimmers from competing unless they transition prior to 12 years old.
