A little more than a year after a tragic mass shooting claimed the lives of 19 children and two teachers at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, a bomb threat was reported at the school.
“Law enforcement agencies are working a threat to life in which the unknown person called our dispatch center and told them he placed bombs around the Robb Elementary school and that he was driving around with an assault rifle,” said a Facebook post from the Uvalde Police Department at around 2:16 p.m. Friday.
Authorities said the area was blocked off to traffic and people were advised to avoid the area.
In a press release issued later Friday, police explained that a man called Uvalde Police Dispatch at around 10:40 a.m. and claimed that he placed explosive devices around the school. Police said the caller provided a name that is being investigated and authorities intend to prosecute the person behind the threat.
Uvalde police immediately responded to the school. They also alerted law enforcement partners and activated their Emergency Operations Incident Command Center. The San Antonio Police Department Bomb Squad also reported to the scene to search the Robb Elementary property. An Explosive Ordinance Detection Division crew did not find any indication of devices at the location. Eventually, first responders issued an “all clear.”
