While for most, there’s no place like home, that old proverb didn’t initially prove true for Chichi the chimp.
The chimpanzee was among hundreds of animals that were evacuated from Ukraine’s Feldman Ecopark, an outdoor zoo located in the war-torn region of Kharkiv. Recently, the Feldman residents were returned to their habitats, but Chichi could tell things were different.
Finding trouble adjusting to the constant barrage of noise from the ongoing Russian aggression, Chichi ran away from home.
The chimp’s keeper saw her make a run for it and followed behind, but the frightened animal would dash away again each time anyone got close, according to a report from The Guardian.
However, as a rainstorm began to drop precipitation on the area Tuesday, Chichi finally ran back to her keeper.
After a warm hug, the zookeeper outfitted Chichi in a yellow raincoat and put her on a bike, and together they made their way back to her home.
