Reports of injuries, including finger amputations, results in 1 million Igloo coolers being recalled

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that more than 1 million Igloo rolling coolers have been recalled after a dozen reports of fingertip injuries, including some amputations.

The federal regulator shared the recall for the Igloo 90-quart Flip & Tow coolers on Thursday, noting that the tow handle can pinch users’ fingertips, resulting in amputation and crushing hazards.

The coolers were sold nationwide by numerous retailers, including Target, Costco, Dick’s, Academy, and Amazon. They were sold from Jan. 2019 through January 2025 for between $80 and $140.

The Katy, Texas-based Igloo Products Corp. manufactures the coolers and shared in the recall notice that it has received 12 reports of fingertip injuries, which include lacerations, bone fractures, and amputations.

The recalled coolers have a tow handle that has “IGLOO” printed on the side and come in several body and lid color combinations. Almost 50 model numbers are being recalled, and the full list can be found here. Model numbers can be found on labels on the bottom of the coolers.

Those who have purchased one of the recalled coolers are advised to stop using them and contact Igloo for a free replacement handle.

The company has set up a call line, 888-943-5182, which is operational from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST Monday through Friday. Consumers can also email Igloo at  igloo90qt@sedgwick.com or go to its website for more information.
