A Florida man who was riding a tricycle and using a flashlight as his headlights was stopped and assaulted by a man wielding a machete, police shared.
The Volusia Sheriff’s Office said that deputies were called at around 1 a.m. to a beach in the area after the victim, who was riding the tricycle, got into an altercation, WFTV reported.
Deputies shared that an unknown man who didn’t like the victim’s tricycle flashlight shining on him started an argument. And then things escalated.
The suspect reportedly knocked the victim off his three-wheeler and then armed himself with a machete that the victim had in a basket on his trike, the sheriff’s office shared.
It was then that the suspect hit the victim in the thigh with the machete before they began to wrestle for it.
The victim took back the machete, but accidentally cut himself with it, deputies shared.
The sheriff’s office said that the victim was able to get back on his tricycle, ride away, and call 911. When first responders arrived, he was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Deputies have found a possible person of interest, but during an interview, the suspect denied knowing anything about the fight. He was eventually released.
The investigation remains ongoing at this point.
