Police shared on Monday that the father of a 2-year-old whose body was found in an alligator’s mouth in a Florida lake last month has been arrested in connection with his son’s death.

The St. Petersburg Police Department released a statement that said the boy, Taylen Mosely, was determined to have died by drowning, according to the Pinellas County Medical Examiner.

21-year-old Thomas Mosley, the father of the boy, has since been arrested in connection to his son’s death and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, as he is also accused of murdering the boy’s mother, Pasuh Jeffery, 20, police said.

Taylen Mosely was first reported missing after his mother was found murdered in her apartment at the end of last month, police shared.

While speaking with NBC News, a spokesperson for the department shared that Mosley threw or placed his son in Lake Maggiore, where he was eventually found deceased in the mouth of an alligator.

Officers located the boy in the mouth of the animal while conducting a search for him, as he had been declared missing after Jeffery’s body was discovered. Police fired shots at the alligator, forcing it to drop the body. The animal was later euthanized.

The investigation into the death of Jeffrey and her son remains ongoing.
