Authorities are searching for a man who allegedly shot a Kentucky Fried Chicken employee in the stomach near a drive-through window Monday night in St. Louis, Mo.

This suspect reportedly fired a gun after the employee informed him that the fast food restaurant was out of corn, according to the Kansas City Star. As of Tuesday, the victim was in a critical but stable condition and was still in the hospital, said the outlet.

A St. Louis Police Department Daily Crimes and Happenings report indicates the incident occurred around 6 p.m. Monday at the KFC located on Delmar Boulevard in the city’s Central West End neighborhood.

At first, the man made threats to the employees through a speaker box after he was told about the corn. Then, he reportedly pulled up to the drive through window with a handgun, investigators said.

One of the employees went out to the suspect’s car to talk with them and went back inside with a gunshot wound. The suspect fled the scene.

Police identified the victim as a 25-year-old Black male. Offenses related to the incident include assault first degree or attempt – serious physical harm or special victim, unlawful use of a weapon, and fourth degree assault.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department will handle an investigation into the incident.
