A Baton Rouge man accused of a horrific assault was taken into custody by Shreveport police Tuesday and extradited back to the state capital.

Jacob Jarmal Woods, 27, allegedly used a blowtorch to sexually assault a woman after first choking her into unconsciousness on April 7. Police say Woods also burned her face by placing the lit blowtorch into her mouth, tried to extract her teeth with a pair of pliers, forcibly pushed her head into an unflushed toilet and threatened her with a butcher knife.

“I’ve been around 50 years and when I read this one, it was extremely—you were shaken. It was completely different than many others I've seen before,” District Attorney Hillar Moore said.

The D.A. also said that he didn’t have an available update on the victim.

“It appears that regardless of what happened to her, she was able to call authorities, 911 and receive some treatment now. At this point, we are trying to get a better handle on what those injuries are, what they consist of, how long it will take to treat her,” Moore said.

Woods’s arrest is his second for domestic violence in the last six months. He’s accused of assaulting a different woman in November 2023.
