A New Jersey man is dead after he fell from a ladder while taking down Christmas lights.

The incident occurred over the weekend while the 62-year-old Union County man was removing the lights from his two-story home just outside of Newark, according to Union Township Police Captain Scott Breslow.

The man was using a ladder when he apparently lost his footing and fell.

"No one was outside to know how high up he was when he fell down," Breslow told NJ Advance Media.

The man landed on a concrete walkway and apparently hit his head, Breslow said.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries. His identity was not released.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 500,000 people are treated and about 300 people die from ladder-related injuries each year in the United States.
