An Oklahoma man is behind bars after police found a bag of meth stuffed inside his half-eaten breakfast sandwich.
Tulsa resident Mitchell Raper was initially stopped around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday after an officer noticed he had a cracked windshield. But as the officer approached the vehicle, he detected a particular smell, said Catoosa Police Department Captain Jennifer Swarer.
"Our K9 officer had detected the smell of or an odor of marijuana, at that point he decided to deploy his K9 unit," Swarer told KTUL.
The K-9 officer, Major Melton, sniffed out the drugs -- located in a coin purse that was stuffed inside of a McDonald's breakfast sandwich.
"In the middle of the sandwich, actually still wrapped up in the wrapper, I guess it was half eaten or had a bite out of it, he figured that the scent of it would throw the canine off," Swarer told KOKI. "It did not throw him off even though it's the fresh scent of food."
Inside the purse, police found 13 grams of meth. An additional search also revealed more meth in Raper's pocket, marijuana on the car's dashboard and $200 in cash, KOKI reported.
Raper was taken into custody and is now facing a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
"This is a first time for us," Swarer told KOKI. "The simplicity of where he decided to go with that, the simple thought that that was where it was going to be hidden the most, that no one was going to see it, you know, lots of jokes have gone around. But in all seriousness, at least the dog was able to, you know, sniff it out and our K-9 handler didn’t give up until he located it."
