After a Facebook user posted a video that showed a rodent crawling through a container of rice Saturday, Stella’s Fish Café in Minneapolis, Minn., announced a temporary closure.
“Stella’s has decided to close early this evening to thoroughly investigate this incident and make certain we are acting in the best interest of out supportive customers,” said the message, also posted to Facebook. “Thank you for your understanding and see you tomorrow.”
“I will never eat at Stella’s again, y’all,” said a voice captured in the video, posed by Facebook user RaLasia Wright. She discussed the incident with CBS Minneapolis.
“It was a big rat. It was a really big, huge rat,” she told the outlet. Wright said she and her friends were walking by the restaurant at around 2 a.m. Saturday when they spotted the rodent.
According to CBS Minneapolis, the restaurant is “still exploring the validity of the video.”
A city spokesperson cited by the outlet said that Stella’s Fish Café closed on Saturday for an emergency pest management visit. During the visit, a health inspector found signs of mice, including droppings and a dead mouse in a trap.
Stella’s said that it closed voluntarily to allow for sanitation and pest control measures. They also asked for an additional health inspection that CBS said was completed Sunday morning. The restaurant’s Facebook message was posted at approximately 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
“It’s good to see that they take health very seriously,” said one customer who was planning to eat at Stella’s before seeing a sign saying they were closed.
Wright even told CBS that she likes the food at Stella’s, though she said the experience has given her pause. Other customers said they hoped the restaurant would be open again soon.
