Rhode Island State Senator Tiara Mack is catching heat after posting a TikTok video on July 4.

The eight-second video shows Mack twerking in a bathing suit while doing a headstand on the beach. She then turns to the camera and says, "Vote Senator Mack!" She captioned the clip "a promised senator thirst trap at Block Island 😈."

Some people disapproving of the senator's behavior didn't mince words online.

"Women have fought so hard to be taken seriously & not as objects of sexual attraction. You aren't doing anything to advance women. I don't ever want to hear you say women aren't taken seriously. You are the reason why," one person tweeted.

"Get some class," tweeted another.

Other commenters were a little more thoughtful with their words.

"People don't care that you're twerking. People care that you're twerking in your capacity as an elected official to attempt to garner votes. It's completely unbecoming of a state senator to, and I can't believe I'm saying this, campaign via twerking," tweeted one person.

Mack may be taking some heat, but she's not sweating.

"There's nothing illicit about what I'm doing, and I'm dancing. There is nothing scandalous about dancing and moving my body," Mack said during an appearance on NewsNation's "Banfield."

"I think it's an indication that there is a cultural divide between an older generation and the younger generation," she added.

Mack further defended her actions on Twitter while also making her stance on abortion clear, writing "I forgot the Supreme Court owns my body. Sorry for twerking. End Hyde. Fund abortion."

Mack also received several positive messages and supportive comments.

"Y'all really need to remember politicians are still people, they aren't forced to behave like you want, they're forced to do their job. Move along lol," one person commented on Mack's video.

"If more politicians acted like they were normal people, I would feel more able to trust them," commented another.

"We need more understanding people running for various offices in our country. if I lived in Rhode Island I would vote for you," another person commented.
