The Twitter account solely dedicated to tracking the locations of the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, has been suspended by the social media platform.

The account, @ElonJet, was run by Jack Sweeney, a college student from Florida. While the premise of the Twitter feed was simple, many enjoyed following Musk’s travels.

The account was able to track the location of the plane by using publicly available flight data, but as of Wednesday morning the account has been shut down.

“Well it appears @ElonJet is suspended,” Sweeney tweeted Wednesday.

Sweeney, 20, spoke with CNBC about the loss of his account that garnered more than 500,000 followers. He said the account was started in June 2020 because he was a fan of Musk and his companies.

But many questioned whether or not the account would continue to operate, especially after Musk acquired Twitter for $44 billion in October.

Since taking over Twitter, Musk has been adamant on sharing his support for free speech on the platform. He even went as far as to say he would not shut down the plane tracking account despite it being a “direct personal safety risk.”

However, Sweeney feels this wasn’t the case, sharing Saturday that he feared he had been shadow banned on the account as his interactions began to drop.

Nonetheless he shared in another tweet on Monday that it appeared everything was back to normal, leaving him even more shocked to find the account was suspended on Wednesday morning .

Sweeney shared with CNBC that before he acquired Twitter, Musk had privately offered him $5,000 to take down the account before saying it was a safety risk for the billionaire.

“Eventually, the last message from him was, ‘It doesn’t feel right to take this down,’” Sweeney said.

While @ElonJet may now be shut down, Sweeney’s other plane tracking accounts, for Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, and former President Donald Trump, all seem to be up and running. Sweeney’s Instagram page for tracking Musk also remains active.
