In the old days, high schoolers met in the parking lot to settle classroom disputes, but that's not what happened in Warren Easton Charter High School in New Orleans. Instead, a teacher battled students in the classroom.
And it was caught on video.
You can see the video here, but note that it's disturbing.
"Video surfaces of a teacher being jumped by students at Warren Eastson school in New Orleans on Tuesday Oct 3rd. Video shows the teacher arguing with a student before eventually engaging in a physical altercation," the description says.
"One student seen throwing a chair at the teacher."
By the end, the teacher is buried in a flurry of flying fists from backpack-carrying students. It looks like at least eight students were involved.
NOLA.com reported the New Orleans Police Department obtained arrest warrants for three students after the fight.
The school released a statement, saying, "Warren Easton Charter High School is aware of a video that is circulating on social media at this time concerning a contentious situation between a teacher and students," a spokesperson for the school said in a prepared statement. "We have contacted NOPD and are working with them to fully investigate the incident. We will take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of our students, faculty and school."
The video garnered many comments on Instagram, including this one: "When people stop choosing a career path to be educators, and YOU have to teach YOUR horribly raised children at home instead of sending them to school, then you might start appreciating how hard their jobs were and how unruly many of the students were in their classes. People get tired of being tired."
Another wrote: "I need to know how this started and how did we arrive here. I hate when we get only one clip…. the fight part. We speak on what the adult didn’t do? How do you know that he didn’t call for administration to come intervene? Do you know that administration will send that kid back to your class…. What lead to this? It’s easy as the outsider to say should have, could have, would have , until you are placed in a similar situation. There is only so much restraint you can exercise..."
