In a year that saw Bill Clinton become the 42nd president of the United States, Michael Jordan won back-to-back NBA Championships, the debut of Cartoon Network, and much more, the world’s oldest living dog was born.

Last week the world’s oldest dog, and arguably one of the goodest boys, hit another milestone, celebrating his 31st birthday with his owners.

According to Guinness World Records, Bobi, who resides in Portugal, pushed even further into his 30s after being declared the world’s oldest dog in February by the record keepers.

Bobi’s owner, Leonel Costa, spoke with Guinness about his best friend and their plan for his “very traditional” Portuguese party on Saturday.

Costa shared that the plans included having over 100 people in attendance for the special occasion in the city of Conqueiros.

As for how he has lived such a long life, Costa’s attributed it to their home, which he described as a “calm, peaceful environment.”

The attention is nothing new for Bobi, as his family says he has been receiving lots of attention since donning his title as the world’s oldest dog.

“We’ve had a lot of journalists and people come from all over the world to take a picture with Bobi,” Costas told Guinness.

While Bobi may be well past the life expectancy of a dog, the aging pup is said to be in good health, as Costas recently brought him in for a check-up with all the frequent visits.

Even though Bobi may have liked the added attention, Costas said that “it wasn’t easy for him” to get up and down so much for photos and such.

Costas shared that Bobi, a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, has begun having difficulties with walking and trouble seeing in his old age.

Bobi is not only the oldest dog currently living, but Guinness reported that he is also the oldest dog ever recorded, with Costas getting his lifelong friend when he was only 8 years old.

“Bobi is special because looking at him is like remembering the people who were part of our family and unfortunately are no longer here, like my father, my brother, or my grandparents who have already left this world,” he said in the release.
