(WWJ) Absentee ballots are about to hit mailboxes all across Michigan.

With 40 days to go until Election Day, nearly two million absentee ballots will be mailed out beginning this Thursday, Sept. 26.

Clerks want people to fill out and return their ballots quickly, so the U.S. Postal Service has plenty of time to transport them.

Secure drop boxes are also available (find a drop box), or voters can bring their absentee ballots to an early voting location once those are open a few days before Election Day: Tuesday. Nov. 5.

A state amendment now allows any voter in Michigan to request an absentee ballot, for any reason or no reason.

Michigan residents can find complete voter information — including how to register to vote, where to vote in person, and what to bring with you to vote — at the Michigan Voter Information Center at this link.

While Michigan voters are encouraged to register to vote as early as possible before an election, you can register at any time up to 8 p.m. on Election Day at your city or township clerk’s office. If you’re registering another way, your voter registration application must be received or postmarked at least 15 days before the election.

Not sure if you're registered to vote? Voters can check their voter registration status and look up their local clerk information at Michigan.gov/Vote. To update your voter registration address, visit this link.
