Gayle King’s reaction to learning that the holdout is a Black man becomes the spark for a much wider conversation about race, identity politics and assumptions about how jurors are supposed to think. The band-and-water-bottle reenactment inside deliberations and the remarks from juror Nick Dargie give us a closer look at the split.
We spend the middle of the hour arguing for juror independence while still examining the flaws in the process. After the break, we move to New Jersey, where an ICE target fleeing a stop crashes into Dr. Penelope Cohen, wife of East Brunswick Mayor Brad Cohen, prompting a fight over sanctuary policy and driver licensing.
