When Boston Scott scampered one yard into the end zone late in the third quarter of Sunday’s game in Detroit, the Eagles accomplished something they hadn’t done in over a half-century.
Scott’s TD was the fourth rushing TD of the game for the Birds and he was the fourth different player to record those scores, following Jalen Hurts, Miles Sanders, and Kenneth Gainwell – marking the first time since October 22, 1961 that the Birds had four different players score a rushing TD in one game.
That last game was a 43-7 Eagles win over the Cowboys in Dallas, and saw Bill Ray Barnes, Clarence Peaks, Ted Dean, and Theron Sapp all find the end zone (Peaks twice) in the rout. Backup quarterback King Hill also had a touchdown pass to Tommy McDonald in that game, something Jalen Hurts had yet to accomplish through three quarters in Detroit – Philly’s fifth score was a James Bradberry pick-six – but
A little synergy with that season elsewhere: the Birds went to 5-1 with the win in Dallas and finished 10-4, defeating the Lions in Detroit in the season finale.
