Reflexes are important for an NBA player's success — or any athlete's success for that matter — but even sports can't bring out the fastest reflexes we have. The only thing that can do that is a parental instinct, the famous "mom/dad reflex" that kicks in when one's child is in trouble and superhuman response time kicks in. And on Thursday, we were treated to a perfect example of that, a rollercoaster video which went from scary to heartwarming in a matter of seconds.
The stars of the video were new Philadelphia 76ers center Andre Drummond and his young son who decided to go for a quick swim without any floaties, life vest or direct supervision. Upon hearing the chaos, Drummond immediately sprung into action.
Nothing could have stopped Drummond from diving in and saving his son. He could have been wearing an expensive Rolex, a brand new pair of fluorescent Nike kicks and a set of exquisite designer clothes and he still would have hopped in the pool with reckless abandon in order to ensure his son's safety. Heck, Joel Embiid could have been defending the edge of the pool, and Drummond still would have been able to power through and rescue his boy. That's a dad reflex at its finest.
Enjoy this compilation of some other dad reflexes that defy logical explanation and go to show that there really is some sixth sense in there.
The 76ers hope that by bringing Drummond in, the aforementioned Embiid has a reliable backup who can contribute all over the floor and continue to boast his ability to rebound with the best of them, with eight straight seasons of double-digit production on the boards. However, as Woodward Sports Network cleverly said, Drummond will never successfully grab a greater rebound in his life than what he was able to do for his son.
