Did we just watch one of the worst plays in baseball history?

“You’ve got to be kidding me.”

Cubs’ short stop Javier Baez went from bouncing out to third to ending up on second base.

Will Craig did something that has likely never been seen before in Major League Baseball.

Third baseman Erik Gonzalez fielded a ball hit by Cubs’ Javier Baez and threw on to first baseman Craig, who inexplicably didn’t step on first to end the inning.

Baez started to retreat running back toward home plate, and Craig followed in chase, inexplicably.

Wilson Contreras took advantage of the situation scoring from third. Craig threw to catcher Michael Perez but the throw was late. That prompted Baez to run back to first.

Perez threw the ball into right, and Baez ended up on second. He would later score giving the Cubs a 3-0 lead in the top of the 3rd. They'd add another in the 4th.

After the play Cubs players were in hysterics laughing and jokingly encouraging Baez to attempt third.

Pirates play-by-play announcer Joe Block and color commentator Kevin Young could be held yelling "tag him" on the radio broadcast.

"On my, what a looney play . . . just tag him out, what was that," Block said.

In a week that saw Tristan Jarry pass a puck to the other team to give them a double overtime win, this is still the worst play of the week, if not year.

In a bit of good news though, Bryan Reynolds and Gregory Polanco hit back-to-back homers to cut the Cubs lead in half in the 4th.
