Eagles legend Donovan McNabb continues to applaud Jalen Hurts' performances, even if his numbers at the end of the Eagles' 21-17 win over the Chiefs don't look overly impressive.
"I think what people have understood, and now what Jalen [Hurts] has proved to people: that it's much more about winning and losing than it is about numbers," McNabb told 94WIP's Jon Marks and Ike Reese on Tuesday afternoon after the win. "The guy is a winner. And everyone talked about him when he came out, talking about his arm strength...It's about winning and losing, and he's proven he can win at any cost. And he's going to do whatever it takes to help this team win."
Hurts finished the contest with 150 yards and one interception on 14/22 passing, and added 29 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. But his orchestration of two critical second-half touchdown drives proved to be the difference as the Eagles improved to 9-1 on the season with an improbable come-from-behind victory over the Chiefs.
The win moved the young quarterback to 27-3 in his last 30 regular season games, ensured the Eagles the best record in the NFL for the 29th consecutive week and has Hurts atop the NFL MVP odds entering Week 12.
But as all fans likely accept, it was yet another close win for Nick Sirianni's team. It took two Kansas City red zone turnovers, a terrible punt by Andy Reid and a few timely drops for the Eagles to escape with a victory. McNabb's praise of Hurts did come within answer about the team continuing to win these close games:
"We all know as former players, you don't want to keep putting yourself in that position. And for all the guys playing now, they'll say the same thing. A win is a win, yes we'll take it. But we can't keep finding ourselves in these type of situations."
The 9-1 Eagles are back next Sunday at 4:25 eastern against a 6-5, yet dangerous, Buffalo Bills team.
