The Philadelphia Eagles are bringing in a former Super Bowl MVP to back up Jalen Hurts, but it won't be Nick Foles.
As the Eagles move forward with Hurts as their starting quarterback, they've signed Joe Flacco to back him up, Flacco's agency announced Tuesday:
Now 36, Flacco will receive $3.5 million guaranteed for signing with the Eagles, per John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia.
Flacco was selected by the Ravens out of Delaware with the 18th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. While not on the level of a few future Hall of Famers that played in the AFC during that time, Flacco seemed to elevate his game in the postseason. Most notably, he was the MVP of Super Bowl XLVII, which saw the Ravens defeat the San Francisco 49ers for their second championship in franchise history.
At this stage of his career, the Audobon, New Jersey native is a relatively unthreatening backup that should give the Eagles a chance to evaluate whether Hurts can be the long-term answer at quarterback for new head coach Nick Sirianni.
