WFAN radio host on his experience at Phillies game: 'A lot of scum'

Evan Roberts, a WFAN radio host in New York, was in attendance for the Mets’ heartbreaking loss in game two of the NLDS in Philadelphia, and he says the Philly fans were every bit as advertised.

"Maybe it was my own fault for going, but you've got a lot of scum in your city and I experienced it," Roberts told Hugh Douglas and Joe Giglio on Tuesday's 94WIP Midday Show.

“They were so disgusting, and such awful human beings,” Evan said on Monday. “Imagining them celebrating a championship actually pains me.

“If there is a Yankees/Phillies, World Series, that would be weeks away. That’s time to let the wounds heal. That’s time to remind myself that I never have to go back into that disgusting city…but as of right now, did my experience make it more likely that I would root for the Yankees in a Yankees/Phillies World Series? Oh hell yeah.”

Evan went with his family, and as the game progressed and the Mets ran out to a 3-0 lead, began to wonder how he would leave Citizens Bank Park without incident if the score held and New York took a 2-0 series lead.

“I’m thinking to myself, ‘How are we gonna get out of here alive if the Mets win?’” Evan said. “I actually thought that the Phillies winning was beneficial to us getting out of there in one piece.”

Philly fans are known for their rowdiness, and CBP has been home to several electric October moments since the Phillies’ run to the 2022 World Series. For fans of a visiting team, Evan said he felt a level of uneasiness about his surroundings that he didn’t experience before in the City of Brotherly Love.

“They were everything you’d expect,” Evan said. “I’ll give Philly that. Everything that you believe they are, they are.

“I did go to two Nets/Sixers playoff games, and I didn’t feel anything close to the level of disgust I felt last night. It wasn’t even on the same planet in terms of how they acted.”
