Giglio: Phillies are starting to win me back over

The Phillies have won two in a row and eight of their last 10 games after a dominant 7-0 win over the Rays on Wednesday night, and Joe Giglio is starting to buy back into the team and its outlook for the rest of the season.

Now just two games back in the NL East, Giglio is starting to see a team that can compete for the division title, and perhaps more.

“When things are good - and it’s been good for a little while now - we give them their flowers,” Joe said. “The Phillies are playing really good baseball right now.

“They’re making contact, they’re not swinging out of the zone, there’s enough power in there, Bryce is starting to heat up...this is the best I have felt about the Phillies since after that Dodger series.”

Harper went 1-for-3 with a double in Wednesday’s win, while Trea Turner continued his hot streak with a home run highlighting a 2-for-4 game to raise his season batting average to .307. Alec Bohm finally left the yard on Wednesday, and Taijuan Walker thrived in his new relief role, tossing three scoreless innings while striking out seven.

As the Phillies heat up, so does Giglio’s hope that this season can be a special one after all.

“They’re starting to win me back over. This is good baseball right now,” Giglio said.

“They’ve played 12 series now. They’re 8-3-1 in series. They’ve done a nice job.”
