Before Calvin Ridley was suspended for the entire 2022 season for gambling on NFL games, he nearly became a Philadelphia Eagle.

According to Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer, the Eagles and Falcons “almost” had a done deal that would send Ridley to Philadelphia last month before Atlanta backed out.

Per Glazer, the Falcons were unable to tell the Eagles why they were backing out, which caused some confusion and frustration on the Eagles’ end but Glazer said the Eagles respected the Falcons for how they handled the situation.

The Falcons first learned the league was investigating Ridley on Feb. 9, while he was away from the team in November for mental health reasons.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter had reported earlier this week that the Falcons declined to enter any trade talks with teams calling about Ridley.

The Eagles’ interest in Ridley should be an indicator of just how aggressive the team may be in adding another wide receiver.

DeVonta Smith had an impressive rookie season but pairing a proven veteran opposite of him would certainly give the Eagles offense a jolt. Amari Cooper, who is expected to be released by the Cowboys, is another name that has surfaced as a possibility for the Eagles.
