Jon Ritchie takes exception to Eagles quiet trade deadline

The Eagles were quiet at the trade deadline, and Jon Ritchie took issue with the team’s inactivity.

With Philly just a half game out in the NFC East standings, Jon wanted to see some aggression from Howie Roseman after last year’s disaster, especially after a Commanders team that they are trailing in the standings bolstered their biggest area of need by acquiring Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore.

“I thought this was the key to what we were trying to do here, and the first half of the season would have proven to this front office ‘Here are the areas of need, clearly we need to go get some bolstering in the pass rush department,’” Ritchie said. “There was a deadline, and it came and went.

“Something must have been swept out from under us for it to come and go without anything happening…we needed a pass rusher to aid what we’ve got, because it’s just not good enough.”

Joe DeCamara was a little more forgiving, at least because it might signal that Roseman believes this team needs more to be a legit contender, and they might not be worth sacrificing real assets for.

“Would it have been nice to add a pass rusher? Sure,” Joe said. “But I also know, part of this is the evaluation of how good are the Eagles…it’s definitely in the past been part of the plan when Howie believes in the team and there is a need.”

Jon doesn’t accept that, and says a team that is two years removed from a Super Bowl appearance and on the heels of first place in the division should be looking to improve the team, especially in areas where they clearly need help, like the pass rush.

“Bryce Huff is missing, just in no-man’s land,” Jon said. “We should have gone and gotten better. I’m sure it was part of the plan, but we didn’t get it done.”
