Josh Hart: 'Idiotic' for Philly fans to be mad at Villanova celebrating alumni winning with Knicks

After the Knicks pulled off a miracle to win game two, Villanova basketball’s X (formerly known as Twitter) account posted a video of the final possession that saw former Wildcats Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo having a part in the eventual game-winning 3-pointer by DiVincenzo.

The post was followed by heavy criticism from Philadelphia fans, who ripped the account of a Philadelphia-area school celebrating one of the most heartbreaking losses in Sixers playoff history.

Josh Hart scoffed at that criticism, and the idea that it would be ripped by Philly fans after Hart, Brunson, and DiVincenzo helped bring multiple national titles to Villanova.

“That’s stupid. Villanova is in our blood,” Hart said. “That’s a bond that goes deeper than where you’re from or where you’re rooting for. We have a bond there to go beyond basketball. For Philly fans to be mad about that, I think that's idiotic. That’s who we are. We’re a family.

“I don’t care about it. I think it’s idiotic that Philly fans are mad about that. Whether they like it or not, Villanova is in our blood.”

Brunson’s response was much more blunt, calling out the fanbase for conditionally associating itself with the Wildcats when it’s convenient.

“I don’t know what to say to that,” Brunson said. “In their eyes, we're not a Philly school. But when we win, apparently we're a Philly school.”
