Here are 5 thoughts on the Philadelphia 76ers' decision to select 6'5" guard from Baylor V.J. Edgecombe with the No. 3 overall pick in last night's NBA Draft.
1. He was No. 2 on my Sixers Big Board because he has such a high floor. Will at the very least be a very useful defender and I think has enough potential as a shooter/passer to be helpful on offense as well. Was a safe pick.
2. Obviously an unreal athlete. Will be super exciting to watch on the fast break.
3. I don’t think his ceiling is as high as Ace Bailey’s ceiling. I don’t see as much potential as an iso scorer in VJ as I did in Ace. That’s why I would have taken Ace, but I still like VJ as a prospect. Very happy they took him over Kon.
4. I like the Sixers are trying to rebuild around guards (Maxey, McCain, VJ) after having to build around a center for so long
5. He seems extremely cool and likeable. His family seems awesome. His story is cool. His suit was sick. His quotes are perfect. He definitely has #FranchiseSwag. The Sixers have been so unlikeable recently that it is nice for fans to have someone that they can really root for and like.
