Joe DeCamara believes there is a scenario that is coming into play for the Philadelphia Phillies that could result in the firing of manager Rob Thomson.
"They better get their act together or Rob Thomson can lose his job. And I certainly hope that doesn't happen," DeCamara said on Tuesday's 94WIP Morning Show with Jon Ritchie.
"The doomsday scenario for Rob Thomson—Brewers pass the Phils because the Phils don't get their act together. Phils are the three seed, they win the division because their still probably going to win the division. Phils are the three seed, they play the first week in October in a best of three. By the way, as of yesterday, you know what they'd play in a best of three? The Braves...In a best of three, you can lose to anybody.
"Here's what I'm gonna say, if they are the three seed and they lose in the first week of October in two or three days and this whole thing ends that way, most people will call for Rob Thomson's dismissal and John Middleton—who is the only vote that counts—might be one of them."
The Phillies return home tonight after a 4-6 road trip. They are now 69-49, 0.5 game behind the Dodgers in the National League and just 2.0 games ahead of the Brewers.
Thomson, 60, took over for Joe Girardi in 2022 and turned the Phillies season around leading them to a World Series and then an NLCS in 2023. Thomson is 217-152 in the regular season as Phillies manager and 19-11 in the postseason.
In December of 2023, the Phillies signed Thomson to a contract extension running through the 2025 season.
