FS1 pundit Skip Bayless backtracked on Monday night after an insensitive tweet regarding the scary medical episode involving Buffalo Bills defensive back Damar Hamlin.
Following Hamlin's collapse on the field, the "Monday Night Football" showdown between the Bills and the Bengals saw a lengthy delay before its eventual suspension.
Bayless, the host of FS1 talk show "Undisputed" along with Shannon Sharpe, posted about the situation on Twitter, wondering "how" the NFL could postpone "a game of this magnitude."
The callous take was swiftly crushed by countless users:
Bayless then backtracked and clarified his initial thoughts:
"Nothing is more important than that young man's health," Bayless said. "That was the point of my last tweet. I'm sorry if that was misunderstood but his health is all that matters. Again, everything else is irrelevant. I prayed for him & will continue to."
The Bills said Hamlin, 24, suffered cardiac arrest on the field. He was sedated and listed in critical condition at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
The play occurred with just under six minutes remaining in the opening quarter after Hamlin made an open-field tackle on Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins. Shortly after getting up from the tackle he just made, Hamlin collapsed to the ground, prompting the attention of medical personnel and professionals from the Bills and Bengals.
