Joe Giglio believes Trea Turner has skated by without his fair share of criticism and is putting the pressure on the Phillies' shortstop to show out in tonight's win-or-go-home Game 4 of the NLDS.
Begins around 9:20 mark
"We're having discussions about Weston Wilson and about Edumundo Sosa and about Cal Stevenson when they spent $810 million on the first four hitters," Giglio said on Wednesday's 94WIP Midday Show. "I'm going to lose it. Has anyone called this radio station and put it on Trea Turner? Anybody? I hear Schwarber's name all of the time, Harper obviously. When Castellanos isn't playing well we rip him. They spent 300 hundred million dollars on a shortstop. Can I have one game where I watch the Phillies and say, 'He's the best player on the field?' Tonight! Win the game, Trea! Have a 3-for-4 game, hit a home run. Like how many times have you watched the Phillies the last few years and said, 'Wow, look at Trea Turner.' I just want one game, it's a soft tossing lefty tonight."
Turner is 3-11 with two walks, three strikeouts and no extra base hits this series.
In two season as a Phillie, Turner is averaging a regular season slash line of .279/.328/.463 with a .791 OPS and 47 total home runs.
In 16 playoff games as a Phillie, Turner is slashing .333/.397/.567 with three home runs and 5 RBI. However, Turner was just 5-for-25 (.200) in the Phillies' 2023 NLDS series loss to the Diamondbacks.
