Joe Giglio does not expect Turner to have an MVP caliber 2024 season.

"I don't expect it," Giglio said of an MVP-type season for Turner on Tuesday's 94WIP Midday Show. "Look, if Trea Turner is an MVP caliber player, if he gets MVP votes this year it's awesome and it means the Phillies are going to win a ton of baseball games. I hope he does. I hope he carries over what he did in August and September and the beginning of October, because that guy is a great baseball player. But I don't expect.

"Here's what I expect, him to be good. I think he's good now at this stage of his career. If you look at his numbers, four years in a row his batting average has fallen. Four years in a row his OPS has faller. His defensive stuff is bad, I mean he lead the league in errors last year. I think he'll be comfortable this year, I think he'll have less ups and downs, but I am not expecting a guy to get MVP votes. I think those days are probably past Trea Turner for a full season."

Only eight players have shorter NL MVP odds than Trea Turner (22-1), according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Turner, who turns 31, had a tumultuous first season as a Phillie in 2023, exploding in August after the now famous standing ovation.

"Rollercoaster," Turner said when asked to recap his first season as a Phillie on the 94WIP Afternoon Show earlier this month. "Lot of ups and downs individually, and team wise obviously. Lot of highs, lot of fun, but also some unfinished business and I'm excited for this year."

Turner struggled to start the 2023 season, batting just .235 with 10 home runs and 34 RBIs in 107 games. But on August 4th, thanks to a push from94WIP Afternoon Show host Jack Fritz, Turner received a standing ovation at Citizens Bank Park on August 4th.

Turner immediately went on a 10-game hitting streak and then went ballistic for the rest of the season, hitting .337 with 16 home runs and 42 RBIs in the 48 post-ovation games. He carried that over to the postseason as well, slashing .347/.400/.633 with five doubles, three homers, and five RBIs in 13 playoff games.

However, as Giglio points out, Turner's batting averages season-by-season since 2020 has steadily declined:

2020 - .335 BA
2021 - .328 BA
2022 - .298 BA
2023 - .266 BA
