WIP Middays: Is Nick Sirianni a 'great' head coach?

Joe Giglio seriously questioned Nick Sirianni’s capability as the Eagles head coach earlier in the season, but after eight straight wins and a silencing of the concerns over his relationship with Jalen Hurts, he is changing his tune Sirianni.

“Eight to ten weeks ago, I was saying that this guy wasn’t a good NFL head coach, and was below average,” Joe said. “That’s obviously not true. He’s proven it.

“He is 44-19 now, they’re currently running an eight-game winning streak...and I give Nick credit for evolving here. I am willing to say that Nick Sirianni is a good coach. Nick Sirianni is doing quite a good job this year.”

Still, Giglio pushed back on the idea that Sirianni is a “legendary” coach, as Howard Eskin said on the show on Monday, or even a “great coach,” but he agrees that Sirianni is better and more capable than he initially thought, while Hugh Douglas gives Sirianni a little more credit than that, though not to the level that Howard did on Monday.

“I would go ‘very good coach,’” Hugh said. “He’s not one of those cats that sits there and feels like it’s his way or the highway. He’s open to new ideas. He’s open to change. That’s what you need.”
