June 9, 2021: As the world shut down, it seemed to lock itself online in search of something... growing increasingly-disjointed through a pixelated lens. In psychedelic-rock band Starcoast’s latest single, “Scroll,” they snap the world out of its techno-slumber and into the reality of how removed it all is. After calling off a second UK tour in 2020, the track was born from isolation as the band longed to be back onstage… Next stop: “Scroll” will kick off Starcoast’s West Coast Tour July 9th, 2021, inviting listeners to come back to a place of true connection.
“When we received an opportunity to play out in San Francisco, our West Coast Tour was born,” Starcoast bassist Jim notes, “It is a daydream of motion to move from our stagnated state to the outside world.”
Starcoast’s long-awaited tour answers the very calling embedded in “Scroll’s” lyrical tapestry for all to “step outside your world.” Show dates include Norfolk (7/9/21), Las Vegas (7/12/21), Los Angeles (7/15/21), San Francisco (7/17/21), Portland (7/21/21) and Seattle (7/23/21). Each show has between three and five bands on the bill which includes The Last Bison, Desert Bloom, Morosis, Desert Moon, Velvateen, Your Favorite Color, White Tar, Ellie, Deep Talk, Analog Dog, Shaylee, Sit Pretty, Sam Z, Tiger Bite, Modern Daze, Watership, King Sheim and Timothy Robert Graham.
Originally composed of brothers Tom Hunter (guitar/vocals) and Jim Hunter (bass/harmonies), the band discovered its missing piece in drummer David Johns, which transcended them into the upper echelon as they started building new songs, together. Written, recorded, produced and mixed by Starcoast, “Scroll” has an accompanying music video suitably-proportioned on a vertical axis. In the video, each band member is veiled behind blurred squares and tessellations, similar to the screens that keep real people from realism. Behind the music video, the production team includes Jake Brinn (Director, Editor), Christy Stevens (Directory of Photography and Colorist) and Justin McLawhorn (Location Manager).
The band’s moniker “Starcoast” was inspired by a meteor shower experienced during a late-night beach walk in their hometown of Virginia Beach, VA, and a subsequent desire to create songs that embody similar larger-than-life experiences. From touring the U.K. to directing their own TV show, the band enjoys a wide variety of activities and devises content for a vastly diverse array of fans. With the heart intent of providing their audience a space in time where they can release their worries, the band’s musical mission is to impart an optimistic afterglow and “spread love, positive vibes, and expansive soundscapes” to their fans, both new and old.
With their upcoming West Coast Tour and “Scroll” release, Starcoast wants listeners to be a positive part of each other’s lives. As Thomas adds, “It’s time to step out & into the collective.”
