Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay (WC), a senior living community in Virginia Beach, in partnership with Virginia Beach Art Center, will host our first annual juried student art exhibit and contest in celebration of Black History Month. Black undergraduate and graduate student artists who attend Hampton Roads-area colleges and universities have been invited to submit works of art that reflect their personal experiences or life journeys. WC will host an invitation-only opening reception on Wed., Feb. 23, starting at 4 p.m. On the last day of the show, March 18, at 5 pm, WC will announce the award winners via Facebook Live event. The public can view the exhibit from Feb. 24 through March 17, Mon. through Fri. from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
What: Opening reception for a juried art exhibit showcasing pieces created Black undergraduate and graduate student artists who attend the Hampton Roads-area colleges and universities. Their submissions reflect each student’s personal experience or life journey. The WC Foundation will present scholarship awards to Best in Show and first- and second- place winners as well as the People's Choice winner at the conclusion of the exhibition on March 18, 2022.

Why: To provide an opportunity for young black artists to showcase their talent, share their personal experiences and life journeys, sell their artwork and win scholarship money to help pay for their education.
