While Katy Perry has spent many years as an American Idol judge searching for stellar vocalists across the country, according to her the title of “The greatest singer of our generation” already belongs to Ariana Grande.

Following the singing competition show’s Season 22 finale on Sunday, May 19, Perry walked the red carpet, closing out her chapter as a judge after seven seasons.
Talking to Extra, about this year’s Idol, Abi Carter, Katy said, the newly crowned champion actually reminds her of Ariana Grande, noting “[Carter’s] voice is unlike anything I’ve heard in Pop music.”
“The last time I said that, I said that about Ariana Grande when she went on The Ellen Show,” she continued. “Like, ‘Oh, this girl is the best singer of our generation.’ I don’t say that lightly.”
