The American Idol winner, The Voice judge, and now host of the talk show The Kelly Clarkson Show has been focused as a daytime professional since her last album release in 2017. While Kelly's continued performing through her show segment “Kellyoke,” including amazing covers of Arctic Monkeys' "Do I Wanna Know" and Adele’s "Set Fire to the Rain," the singer hasn’t released original works in nearly six years.
“When my ex and I first separated, there were many emotions. It was hard,” Clarkson told Variety. “A lot of those [songs] are the ones that are on the album. I literally wrote most of these almost two years ago. Then I told my label, ‘I can’t talk about this until I’ve gone through it,’ and it’s just taken some time to do that.”
Yet this past Sunday, the "Since U Been Gone" singer told her fans that, while she is both incredibly nervous and excited, a new album will be coming out "soon" and that singles will be released "even sooner."
In her video posted across all her social media accounts, Clarkson announced both the existence of the album and its title, Chemistry.
“This album is definitely the arc of an entire relationship,” she explains. “That whole relationship shouldn’t be brought down to one thing. There’s the good, the bad, and the ugly kind of thing going on. Chemistry can be a really amazing, sexy, cool, fun thing, but it can also be very bad for you. So, that’s why I named it 'Chemistry.' I thought it was the perfect title to describe the entire album.”
While waiting for the album, catch Kelly Clarkson’s talk show each weekday on NBC, 3PM Eastern Standard Time.
