Live Nation will be using similar guidelines to the ones they put in place for Lollapalooza this year. At the Chicago event, festival-goers were required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test. The policy will apply not just to fans attending the shows, but to the artists and crew as well.
“Vaccines are going to be your ticket back to shows, and as of October 4 we will be following the model we developed for Lollapalooza and requiring this for artists, fans and employees at Live Nation venues and festivals everywhere possible in the US,” Live Nation president and CEO Michael Rapino said in a statement.
Live Nation has also made October 4 the deadline for their employees to be vaccinated in order to visit the company’s offices, venues, or events.
Concerns ran high heading into Lollapalooza as 400,000 people attended the four-day event amidst a surge in COVID-19 cases due to the delta variant.
A Live Nation spokesperson told NBC News that the festival’s vaccination requirement was a major incentive for some concertgoers to get the vaccine. "12% of fans said Lolla was actually their reason for getting vaccinated - which is a huge number with 400k attendees throughout the weekend," the spokesperson said.
The news comes just days after AEG Presents announced they’ll be putting similar guidelines in place beginning October 1.
The concert promoters will require all fans and staff at their venues to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test no more than 72 hours prior to the start of the event.
