“Squid Game” is back and this time it’s real.
Sort of.
The hit Netflix show will be returning to the streaming giant in reality show form as “Squid Game: The Challenge.”
The contest will feature 456 players pitted against each other competing in games viewers will recognize from the fictional series. The prize sits at $4.56 million.
The trailer shows off iconic games from the original’s season, including Red/Light Green Light, but there a few additional tasks.
“This is a savage game,” one contestant says.
Unlike the fictional “Squid Game” no one is paying with their life when they lose on “The Challenge.” Now when they fail, ink packs blow up on their chests showing they’ve been eliminated.
“Fans of the drama series are in for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real world contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest ever cash prize at the end,” said Brandon Riegg, Netflix’s Vice President, Unscripted and Documentary Series, said of the show when it was announced in 2022.
“Squid Game: The Challenge” arrives on Netflix Nov. 22. New episodes will air weekly through Dec. 6.
