LAKE FOREST, Ill. (670 The Score) – Bears running back D’Andre Swift is dealing with a groin strain, though it isn’t believed to be a serious setback.
Swift was held out of practice Wednesday at Halas Hall, head coach Matt Eberflus said. It’s unclear when he suffered the issue, as no injury was reported during the Bears’ 20-19 loss to the Packers on Sunday.
“We got to give him some rest,” Eberflus said. “Those guys torque their legs and do a really good job, and he's a high-twitch guy, so we just got to do a really good job of resting him the next day or two to make sure he's ready to go.
“We're hopeful there. Again, it's all about progress, going through day-to-day.
But we're hopeful.”
The 25-year-old Swift has been an important part of the Bears’ plan on offense. He has rushed for 635 yards, 4.1 yards per carry and five touchdowns in 10 games this season.
If Swift can’t play when the Vikings visit Soldier Field on Sunday, the Bears will turn to running back Roschon Johnson to lead their backfield. Reserve running back Khalil Herbert was dealt to the Bengals prior to the NFL trade deadline earlier in October. Veteran fullback Khari Blasingame was released in October.
The Bears’ running back depth chart also includes Travis Homer, a key special teams player, and practice squad running back Darrynton Evans.
Bears left guard Teven Jenkins (ankle) returned to practice Wednesday. Meanwhile, veteran guard Ryan Bates (concussion) and safety Elijah Hicks (ankle) were held out of practice.
The Bears (4-6) and Vikings (8-2) will kick off at noon on Sunday at Soldier Field.
