LAKE FOREST, Ill. (670 The Score) – The Bears made another pair of additions to their defense in the fifth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday by selecting Oregon linebacker Noah Sewell at No. 148 overall and Minnesota cornerback Terell Smith at No. 165 overall.

Sewell had 215 total tackles, 20.5 tackles for a loss and 7.5 sacks in 33 games across three seasons at Oregon. He was a second-team All-Pac-12 selection in 2022.

Sewell is the younger brother of Lions tackle Penei Sewell and Saints linebacker Nephi Sewell.

“He’s ready to go," Bears area scout Reese Hicks said of Sewell's family connections in the league. "I think seeing his older brothers kind of go through the process, I think he kind of used that as a blueprint. He kind of put his own spin on it to be ready at this level and be ready to step in and play as soon as possible.”

The Bears acquired the 148th pick from the Ravens as part of the trade that sent star linebacker Roquan Smith to Baltimore last season.

Smith had two interceptions over 13 starts for the Golden Gophers last season. He was a five-year player at Minnesota.

“What's special about him is he's kind of made that steady ascent," Bears co-director of player personnel Trey Koziol said. "So, when we look at drafting players it's like, can you still get more out of them? Are they still in that developmental upswing? And I think that's where Terell really stood out.”

Smith was the second addition to the Bears' secondary in the past two days. The Bears selected Miami cornerback Tyrique Stevenson at No. 56 overall in the second round Friday.

The Bears still hold a pair of seventh-round selections.
