Irvin, 34, has 52 sacks in 121 career games. He played in two games for the Seahawks last season before suffering a torn ACL. Irvin previously had 8.5 sacks over 13 games for the Panthers in 2019.

"Been a long road but I'm back," Irvin tweeted.

The Bears didn't immediately make the signing of Irvin official. His addition will offer an insurance policy while star pass rusher Khalil Mack is dealing with a foot injury. The 30-year-old Mack hasn't practiced this week and is in jeopardy of missing his third straight game.

Bears defensive coordinator Sean Desai declined to discuss what the team's plan is for Mack when questioned by a reporter Thursday.

The Bears (3-6) host the Ravens (6-3) on Sunday at Soldier Field.
