(670 The Score) The White Sox received good news Monday regarding outfielder Andrew Vaughn’s health.
Vaughn is expected to be sidelined from game action for one to two weeks after suffering a right hip pointer while making a diving catch in right field Sunday in a spring training game. While that will jeopardize his availability for Opening Day, Vaughn has avoided serious injury. The White Sox's regular-season opener is April 8.
Vaughn, 23, hit .235 with 15 homers, 48 RBIs and a .705 OPS in 127 games as a rookie in 2021. A first baseman by trade, he moved primarily to the outfield after Eloy Jimenez suffered a serious pectoral injury in spring training last year. Vaughn is set to be one of the key figures in the White Sox’s platoon in right field while also getting at-bats as their designated hitter this season.
Vaughn started 100 games in the outfield, 10 at first base and four at designated hitter in 2021. Outfielders Adam Engel and Gavin Sheets as well as utilityman Leury Garcia are likely to receive more playing time during the span that Vaughn is out.
