New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole became the latest MLB star to take to Twitter to share his thoughts on a lockout that has now lasted for more than two months.
The four-time All-Star said Wednesday that he was encouraged after attending a regional players association meeting:
A slew of players voiced their frustrations last week, seeming to suggest that they didn't believe that the league was negotiating in good faith with the MLBPA.
The most notable of those was three-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer, who is preparing for his first season with the New York Mets. The 37-year-old balked at the idea of bringing in a federal mediator last week -- an idea proposed by the league that was ultimately rejected by the MLBPA -- and offered a synopsis of what players want to see as part of a new collective bargaining agreement:
The 30 owners of the league elected to lock the players out on Dec. 1, a move that they were not required to make upon the conclusion of the last CBA. To this point, that decision seems to have only pushed the two sides further away from an agreement, rather than creating a sense of urgency to get a new deal done.
