The Mets teamed up to make history on Friday night, using five pitchers to combine for a no-hitter against the Phillies after Tylor Megill continued his stellar start to the season by tossing five hitless frames.
It was also the most pitches ever thrown in a no-hitter, surpassing the 2003 Astros when they no-hit the Yankees in what was also a collective effort.
The game also featured six walks by Mets pitching, with Megill walking three and Joely Rodriguez walking two in his one inning of work. Edwin Diaz was able to finish the job in the top of the ninth, joining Drew Smith and Seth Lugo, who also pitched in to help make history.
Diaz closed the door by striking out Bryce Harper, Nick Castellanos, and J.T. Realmuto in a dominant ninth to complete the first no-hitter of the 2022 season.
The no-no is just the second in franchise history, the first coming by way of Johan Santana in 2012.
